19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
